The horse hair process of firing causes a bold contrast of black lines with the natural color of the clay. Horse hair is placed on the hot pottery surface (1300-1500F) to create local reduction where it burns as contact is made with the clay. The smooth surface comes from burnishing the clay. Pine needles are woven onto the top portion along with clay “branches”.
