The horse hair process of firing causes a bold contrast of black lines with the natural color of the clay. Horse hair is placed on the hot pottery surface (1300-1500F) to create local reduction where it burns as contact is made with the clay. The smooth surface comes from burnishing the clay. Pine needles are woven onto the top portion with a clay stick.
