Naked Raku is a slip resist method of firing. The pottery is coated with a slip resist (clay mixture), and as it dries the slip cracks. Smoke enters the cracks during the firing process and leaves the black patterns on the clay body. The resist is removed when the firing is completed. Pine needles were woven onto the top.
The smooth surface on the vessel comes from burnishing the clay prior to firing.
