Horse Hair is a firing process which causes a bold contrast of black lines with the clay body. The pot is heated to about 1500F and removed from the kiln with tongs. Horse hair is place on the hot pottery surface to create local reduction where it burns as contact is made with the clay. The smooth surface comes from burnishing the clay.
